MRSL & RSL
What are MRSLs and RSLs?
MRSL and RSL are used to indicate substances that are considered harmful or dangerous, and these substances should not eventually appear on any clothing item.
MRSL:List of production restricted substances, for all chemicals used in the garment manufacturing process
RSL:The list of restricted substances in the finished product, only the chemical substances that will eventually appear on the finished garment are considered
MRSL
- MRSL is the abbreviation of "Manufacturing Restricted Substance List", which provides manufacturers, suppliers, brands and retailers with acceptable limits for restricted substances in chemical formulations used in the manufacturing of materials and products.
- MRSL is a tool used by companies around the world to regulate the safety of chemical formulations used in the production process. Through the MRSL's supervision of upstream chemical formulations, workers, consumers and the environment are protected.
- MRSL compliance can also protect brands and retailers from any potential negative publicity regarding product safety.

RSL
- RSL focuses on restricting the residues of substances in the final product and is an important tool to ensure the safety of clothing. They are used to ensure compliance with fashion brand guidelines.
- Many RSLs also require compliance with REACH's SVHC (Substances of Very High Concern) list.
- RSL does not take into account the hazardous substances used in the production process and the related impact on workers' health and the environment.
- Banning the use of all restricted chemicals in the garment manufacturing process, MRSL represents a better way to look at sustainability more broadly.
- Manufacturers, suppliers, brands, and retailers who care about the ecological aspects of their product production and distribution use RSL and MRSL. Because many organizations publish MRSL and RSL, the substances listed are not exactly the same.
- In the textile industry, some of the most relevant lists are MRSLs created by international brands such as H&M, Marks and Spencer and G-Star. Today, most brand companies have chosen to adopt ZDHC MRSL, which has become the mainstream of sustainable development plans.
